Virtual Engagement

When I first became an art teacher I was just thrust into a room with supplies with no curriculum in site. I went in with the best intentions a lot of art knowledge and many years of working in classrooms with students. Trying to organize a visual arts curriculum was new to me. The first semester felt like I was barely keeping my head above water. It was right before the pandemic and I was pregnant. I left for my maternity leave with the best sub plans in place that I could come up with. While on maternity leave everything shut down and I came back from maternity leave to teach visual arts online from home. I had never done anything like that and it felt daunting. I started searching online for resources and I found some amazing groups specifically for visual art teachers. I joined one in particular and this group has been nothing, but supportive. We discuss all things classroom. It can range from how to use supplies, what is this random supply I have found, how do I engage my students better and the list goes on. I find no cons thus far only pros.
Professional Learning
Technology for me does not come naturally to me. I have been thrusted into this world once I took the step to further my career. I am happy that I made this decision and I think that it is important as educators to stretch ourselves and become life long learners. For me, I need digital tools that are user friendly and I can operate with ease. I have found that Google Arts and Culture to be a very useful tool to enhance my teaching and online presence with my students.
